PLAYLINK
What is it? What does it do?

Think-do: do-think tank

Some have said we’re a ‘sort of think tank’, but that is inaccurate and limiting.

However, sticking for the moment with the ‘tank’ idea, my current best stab at describing PLAYLINK is that it is a ‘think-do: do-think tank’. We fulfil consultancy and advisory roles, run workshops and conferences, publish articles, issue briefings.

But we also get our hands dirty: our design work is directed towards creating as beautiful-and-as-functional-as-they-can-be shared public spaces, housing estates and developments, spaces and places for play, school playgrounds and much else.

In all our endeavours, we aim always to expand the range of what is thought possible, to question assumptions, and to be persuasive about what we know and believe.

We therefore work with and for RSLs, local authorities, heritage bodies, local voluntary groups, schools, children’s centres, parks departments, in fact with anyone who shares our interests and concerns.

Our claim is that our work on the ground informs and feeds into our consultancy and advisory roles, and vice versa.

The significance of the ‘LINK’

As the ‘LINK’ part of our name implies, our expertise, interests and activities extend beyond play.

But weaving children and teenagers into the wider fabric of social life is one of our core purposes.

Below is an activity and client summary list. It requires only quick perusal to get a sense of what we do.
